And the Oscar goes to… on Flickr.
The Oscar goes to - Detroit’s Parade Company! I hadn’t been to the parade in a few years, and I certainly haven’t even shot photos of it. But I knew it was something I had to do. I’ve always loved how creative and imaginative the creators/artists of the floats can be. This one of Oscar the Grouch really captured my eye, and although I personally always loved Snuffleupagus, Oscar was my go to icon for laughs as a kid. The hustle and bustle of a large-scale parade in a seemingly small-town feeling city is something special. Although the route extends further up Woodward, I’ve always preferred to be down on lower Woodward with all the skyscrapers and older buildings surrounding the parade. It just feels right. It always makes it seem that the Detroit is more than just the sum of its parts. I’m thankful Detroit has kept this tradition going all along, and I look forward to shooting photos of it in the future.
